With the advent of new powerful High Throughput Satellite (HTS) services, such as Intelsat EpicNG, smaller antennas can now deliver high throughput service within available Ku-band satellite footprints - now also globally (within all available Ku-band footprints). With an unprecedented G/T of 15.9 dB/K the new SAILOR 600 VSAT Ku is the most powerful 60cm class antenna ever built. Together with HTS, it can provide a stable, high throughput link to enable maritime broadband for any vessel in any Ku-band coverage.

SAILOR 600 VSAT Ku is designed for quick and cost-effective deployment. It is ideal for smaller vessels and because it weighs just 35 kg, it is possible to carry on board, making it especially relevant for installations where no cranes or forklifts are available. Dynamic Motor Brakes mean the radome can stay on during transport and no-power situations once installed, and because it is a super-light solution, it is more cost effective to ship, while a single part number ensures easy ordering.


A wealth of unique features enable unmatched ease and speed of installation, including a single cable between the antenna and below deck unit. P1dB compression over frequency means that antennas can be installed without contacting the NOC for commissioning. SAILOR antennas also feature Automatic Azimuth Calibration using modem Rx Lock, so they can find the ship's centreline automatically, saving time during installation and reducing errors.

SAILOR antennas are tested using real ship motion data in the world's first Advanced Dynamic Simulator for antennas. Supported by alpha testing in the North Sea, this unique combination of a scientific approach and live testing to product development provides the confidence that SAILOR antennas will deliver the highest availability of service on any vessel type.

The software controlled SAILOR VSAT Technology platform provides unique ease of handling, diagnostics and automatic event reporting, helping service providers to increase service reliability. Remote monitoring facilities include SNMP Traps and a built-in email client, providing real-time support for service providers to meet SLAs and end-users to enjoy uninterrupted connectivity. The latest software includes Shock & Vibration Monitoring, which collects valuable sensor data from extreme weather situations at sea.

The SAILOR VSAT Technology platform enables two SAILOR 600 VSAT Ku systems to be operated on a single subscription, on a single modem, making it easier and less costly to ensure high availability of service. The SAILOR 800 VSAT antenna is a 3-axis stabilized Ku-band antenna system based on a reflector dish size of 83 cm. This VSAT antenne provides the same or better radio performance compared to a typical 1m antenna. This is tested by industry 3rd party and showed that the SAILOR 800 VSAT antenna provides the best performance in the 80cm class.

Quick and Easy

The SAILOR 800 VSAT antenna is quick and easy to deploy. Compared to the SAILOR 900 the SAILOR 800 is 20% smaller and can therefore be used on vessels that otherwise would not consider VSAT because of the size and weight of suitable antennas.

A Top Performer

The focus of the SAILOR 800 VSAT antenna is on RF performance, G/T, which is >18 dB/K – a value equal to or higher than most other 1m maritime VSAT antennae performance claims – yet it’s much smaller and lighter. This performance makes this 83cm antenna suitable for vessels that would normally specify a 1m antenna.

The unique, class-leading performance of SAILOR 800 VSAT antenna also opens up a world of high quality, reliable communications for a wider number of vessels including workboats, fishing vessels, inland waterways and yachts, whilst providing installation flexibility for vessels of all types and size.

Lower Cost and Increased up Time

The SAILOR 800 VSAT antenna leaves the factory fully tested and configured, with all RF equipment pre-configured and installed. This reduces the time needed on board for installation, resulting in lower start-up costs for users, whilst the SAILOR build quality ensures reliability and increased up time.

Smaller Form Factor

Customers who would previously have specified a 1m antenna or who may have considered VSAT too ‘big’ for their vessel, can now install a SAILOR 800 VSAT and enjoy the benefits of a 20% smaller form factor with the performance of a much larger antenna.

The new Cobham designed 20W also ensures reliable operation in warm, humid climates without the need for air conditioning systems in the antenna, despite the higher radiated power.

Updated electronics, a precision reflector dish and radome tuned for optimum performance on both Ku- and Ka-band frequencies ensure that SAILOR 900 VSAT High Power is an incredibly flexible solution. It is also easy to install. It is delivered factory-tested, balanced and ready-to-go with standardised top quality RF and the requirement for only one cable between antenna and below-deck.

COBHAM SAILOR 900 VSAT High Power

SAILOR 900 VSAT was the first maritime VSAT antenna system that standardised the entire hardware configuration specifically for the RF equipment for the receive part two LNBs, one for x-pol, one for co-pol and the transmit part, the BUC where 8W has become a standard for all global Ku band antennas and networks.
With customers requiring much higher amounts of data– also for the return links – we have now successfully integrated a new high performance 20W BUC into the SAILOR 900 VSAT – cue High Power.

With the advent of HTS, the possibility to get much higher bandwidths and throughput from the same RF equipment and modems has come closer. Satellite companies like Intelsat SES, Eutelsat, Telesat and others will have dozens of new Ku band satellites in spot beam or wide beam architectures. SAILOR antennas are used on existing Ku band mobility beams world-wide.
There are no upgrades required for existing antennas to operate in the new HTS networks. Some providers will likely move towards more powerful modems like the iDirect X7 Satellite Router to support HTS and higher bandwidths/throughput. 
The SAILOR 900 VSAT High Power will deliver higher and better return links both on existing and new HTS spot beams and wide beams.

It is featured with simple pedestal design to support easy conversion by just replacing BUC/LNB assembly and antenna feed, relieving difficult ship deck work and saving higher labor cost, and also it employed Ku/Ka optimized radome and antenna reflector to satisfy service requirements in high moistures propagating environment.

Further to it, antenna control system and associated electronics are newly designed to comply with industry trend such as remote IP based managed system and simple cabling with neighboring equipment and also provide an interface with Modem integrated GX below deck equipment.Superior RF Performance
